Award-Winning Greening The Cleaning Line Adds Ready-To-Use Pump Spray Disinfectant to Battle Viruses, MRSA

doctor_disinfectantHACKENSACK, NJ / UTICA, NY, October 21, 2009 – Building on its strength in environmentally-responsible institutional cleaning products, The Deirdre Imus Environmental Health Center®  announces the addition of a ready-to-use detergent disinfectant pump spray to its award-winning line of Greening the Cleaning® products.

The new Spray 'N' Wipe (DIC 1) is an all-in-one virucide, bacteriacide, tuberculocide, fungicide, and mildew fungistatic that kills germs as it cleans.  The convenient 32 oz. pump spray is approved for hospital disinfection and ideal for schools and universities, healthcare clinics, food service facilities and other institutional settings.

The addition to the Greening the Cleaning line comes at a time of heightened concern about the H1N1 Influenza A virus ("swine flu").  The Spray N Wipe's quaternary disinfectant is effective against a broad spectrum of human and avian Influenza viruses, foodborne pathogens such as Salmonella and E. coli, and many bacteria including Methicillin Resistant Staphlyloccus aureus (MRSA).  Quaternary disinfectants have shown to be effective against a range of enveloped viruses.

Tests show that the Spray 'N' Wipe can control such viruses as:  Avian Influenza A Virus (H3N2), Avian Influenza Virus Type A (H9N2), Bovine Viral Diarrhea Virus (BVDV), Canine Parvovirus, Feline Calicivirus (FCV), Hepatitis A Virus (HAV), Hepatitis B Virus (HBV), Hepatitis C Virus (HCV), Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV-1), Human Coronavirus, Norovirus (Norwalk Virus), Paramyxovirus (Mumps), Poliovirus Type 1, Rabies,  Streptococcus pyogenes (Necrotizing Fasciitis-Group A), Vancomycin resistant Enterococcus faecalis (VRE), Vancomycin intermediate resistant Staphylococcus aureus (VISA) and Yersinia enterocolitica. Rhinovirus Type 39, Rotovirus, and SARS Associated Coronavirus.

Greening the Cleaning® means eliminating to the greatest extent possible, all cleaning agents containing hazardous ingredients and replacing them with naturally-derived ingredients with the least level of toxicity.  One hundred percent of all profits from the institutional products go to the Environmental Center for supporting education and research to identify, control and ultimately prevent toxic exposures in the environment that threaten our children's health.

The phosphate-free disinfectant Spray 'N Wipe is available in case quantities (6 and 12, 32 oz. recyclable plastic GTC-DIC1spraybottles/case).  It and all Greening the Cleaning commercial products are distributed nationwide by the Central Association for the Blind & Visually Impaired (http://www.cabvi.org/) (Utica, NY) (315) 797-2233.  Purchases help employ people who are blind or visually impaired in filling, packaging, distribution and customer service operations.

Recognized in 2006 by Governor George Pataki, Deirdre Imus and the Environmental Center helped usher in "Green Cleaning" Executive Orders in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut that require state agencies to reduce or eliminate the use of toxic cleaning agents.  Her testimony before City Hall in New York City also led to new "green cleaning" maintenance procedures at schools.

New York State mandates that schools purchase green cleaning products under Public Law 409I, and that agencies purchase from preferred vendors under State Finance Law 162.
